Empowering adults with developmental & intellectual disabilities

Who We Are
Our Commitment to Empowerment and Inclusion in Kenya.
Sparsh Kenya is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya. (The word “Sparsh” means “touch” – reflecting our philosophy of touching lives with compassion.) We were established by a group of dedicated parents and community members, including founders Shefali Khapre and Nita Shah, who recognized the lack of services for adults with developmental disabilities once formal schooling ends. United by the vision of an inclusive society, they set out to create a supportive environment where adults with disabilities could continue to learn, work, and thrive.

Our Vision
We envision a Kenya where people of all abilities are valued, included, and empowered. This means a society free of stigma, where adults with Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and other disabilities have opportunities to develop their talents and contribute to their communities. Our mantra is “disability inclusion in Kenya” – we strive to be a model center demonstrating that given the right support, adults with disabilities can lead meaningful, productive lives.
Our Mission and Purpose
Sparsh Kenya’s mission is to provide lifelong learning and vocational training for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on practical life skills, creative expression, and income-generating crafts to help each individual become as independent as possible. At our day programme center in Nairobi, participants engage in activities ranging from personal care and daily living skills to arts and crafts and even basic workplace experiences. We aim to bridge the gap between school and adult life for our participants, empowering them to reach their potential. In doing so, we also educate the broader community about inclusion, breaking down barriers one success story at a time.
